As a result of the increased requirements of successive Directives and for increasingly rigorous and strict health protection, the current air quality monitoring, forecasting and information service was installed in October 1998.
The monitoring system consists of 24 remote stations which send all their information over
telephone lines to the central station. The elements in the system are:
- Remote stations. Points where the information is acquired. They are equipped with the analysers
needed to measure levels of noise, gases and particles.
- Mobile units. Used to measure pollution levels in areas not covered by the remote
stations.
- Calibration laboratory. This is responsible for maintaining the reliability of the pollution
measurement equipment by calibrating and adjusting the instruments.
- Software. The central station software has sufficient capacity to support the stations in the
system and future expansion and has sufficient capacity to carry out calculations and to adapt
immediately to current legislation.
